Wied iż-Żurrieq Parking Attendant Ċikku l-Markiż Dies Aged 71

Francis Caruana, widely known by his nickname Ċikku l-Markiż, has passed away at the age of 71. For decades, he was one of the most recognisable faces at Wied iż-Żurrieq, the popular seaside destination in the south of Malta.

Caruana's connection to the area began when he was just 13 years old, accompanying his father to help look after the site. Over the years, he took on that role himself, carrying on a family tradition that made him a constant and familiar presence at the location.

News of his passing prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media, with many reflecting on the role he played in the community. For countless visitors to Wied iż-Żurrieq over the years, he was simply part of the place itself.
