WFP Cuts Aid to 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza Over Funding
The World Food Programme has cut the number of Palestinians in Gaza receiving monthly food assistance from 1.6 million to 1.1 million, citing a severe funding shortfall.

The World Food Programme has announced significant cuts to its Gaza operations, reducing the number of Palestinians receiving monthly food assistance from 1.6 million to 1.1 million. The agency cited a severe funding shortfall, having received less than half its usual budget for its Palestine operation in 2026.
Rations will be reduced from two food parcels per family to one, and flour bags will be smaller. Daily hot meals will drop from 250,000 to 150,000, while families in hard-to-reach areas near Israeli military control zones will receive a hot meal every other day rather than daily.
The WFP says it urgently requires a further $450 million over the next six months to sustain critical operations.
The proportion of Gaza's population facing acute food insecurity has edged down from 77 per cent at the end of 2025 to 67 per cent, but the agency cautioned that the progress "remains modest and fragile."
