Rosianne Cutajar Says She's "Uncomfortable" With Budget Measures

Equality and Civil Rights Minister Rosianne Cutajar has said she is personally uncomfortable with budget measures targeting third-country nationals, even as she acknowledged the difficult position Finance Minister Clyde Caruana faced in making the decision.

Cutajar made the comments in an interview with Times of Malta, stating that she was not personally comfortable with the budget measures aimed at third-country nationals. She said she recognised that Caruana had faced a difficult decision, one taken in the interest of the broader economy.

The minister also raised concerns about the rise in anti-foreigner sentiment, saying that social media commentary on the issue had been hurtful. Her remarks are notable given that her ministerial remit places equality and civil rights at its core.

The measures have reignited a wider debate about how Malta balances economic pressures with its obligations toward migrant workers and residents.
