Weather stations recorded an average of 69.1 millimetres of rainfall over a 24-hour period, as thunder and lightning swept across the island. The downpour left standing water in low-lying areas, with parked cars bearing the brunt of the damage.
Whilst the flooding appears to have been driven by the volume of rainfall, the incident raises questions about whether enough is being done to address drainage in areas repeatedly prone to flash floods.
