Prison Phones Linked to Alleged Murder Plot in Kordin
Three mobile phones discovered in the possession of convicted inmates at Kordin Prison may have disrupted what sources describe as an imminent murder plot.
The phones were found with Robert Agius, George Degiorgio, and Sicilian national Damiano Torrisi, all currently serving sentences for serious offences. According to a report by KullHadd, police were tipped off that illegal activities were being coordinated from inside the prison. Sources close to the investigation suggested that a murder could have taken place within days, though no formal confirmation has been issued.
All three men were subsequently brought in for questioning at the Police Depot. Separately, Degiorgio's 21-year-old son Jaden was arrested last week as part of a drug trafficking operation involving over 28 kilograms of narcotics with an estimated street value of 3.5 million euros. Investigators have not ruled out a connection between the two cases.
Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield has since called for legislative changes, describing it as unacceptable that possessing a mobile phone inside prison does not currently constitute a criminal offence.
