Over-70s to Face New Medical Requirements for Nautical Licences

Transport Malta has introduced new medical fitness requirements for nautical licence holders aged 70 and over, capping licences for this age group at a maximum validity of five years.

Under the revised rules, anyone aged 70 or above must submit a completed Medical Fitness Form when applying for a new licence and at every subsequent five-year renewal. The changes were brought in by the Training and Certification Section within the Ports and Yachting Directorate and take effect immediately, replacing all previous procedures.

For those under 70, newly issued or renewed licences will remain valid only until the holder reaches that age. This means some licence holders may receive licences covering a period shorter than the standard ten years.

Existing licences will continue to be honoured until their current expiry dates.
