Obsession Nominated in Comedy Category for Golden Globes
Focus Features has entered Obsession, the breakout horror hit starring Inde Navarrette, into the musical or comedy categories for the Golden Globes rather than drama, a move that has drawn attention given the film's violent premise.

Obsession, the Curry Barker film that turned a $750,000 budget into over $500 million at the global box office, has been submitted by distributor Focus Features for Golden Globes consideration in the musical or comedy categories, not drama.
The decision has raised eyebrows given the film's horror premise, which follows the violent consequences of a young man's wish for unconditional love. Yet those behind the film argue it plays as a dark comedy, pointing to audience reactions and widespread meme culture around star Inde Navarrette's performance.
The move has precedent. Films such as Get Out, The Banshees of Inisherin, Poor Things and The Substance were all submitted and accepted in the same category, and two of those went on to win the best picture Globe in that field.
Strategically, the comedy category could ease Navarrette's path to a best actress nomination, though she will face stiff competition from Julianne Moore for The Debut.
