Nationalist Party Criticises Budget 2027 Over Power Cuts and Traffic

The Nationalist Party has said Budget 2027 failed to address core problems facing the public, from power cuts to traffic congestion, arguing that people are still dealing with the same issues they had before the Budget was delivered.

PN spokespersons Mark Anthony Sammut, Julian Borg and Annabelle Cilia made the criticisms at a press conference on Thursday, saying the Budget had left core issues unresolved.

The party pointed specifically to the recurring power cuts experienced over summer, highlighting their impact on businesses, households and vulnerable individuals who rely on medical equipment. The PN described the Finance Minister's assertion that government investment in energy was yielding results as, in their words, an insult to the public.

Beyond energy, the party argued that the Budget fell short on work-life balance commitments the Labour Party had made in the months leading up to it, and that no clear path had been set out towards an economic model less dependent on population growth. The PN also raised concerns over education investment and whether it was aligned with future labour market needs.

The party further said infrastructure and transport had been left without meaningful direction, with ongoing traffic congestion showing no signs of being addressed through the measures announced in the Budget.
