EU Approves €3.7 Million for Malta After Storm Harry
The European Parliament has approved €489 million in emergency funding for four countries hit by severe storms and flooding this year, with Malta set to receive €3.7 million through the EU Solidarity Fund.

Storm Harry struck Malta in January, prompting the government to formally request assistance from the EU. Of the €3.7 million allocated to Malta, approximately €931,000 has already been paid out as an advance, with the remainder directed towards infrastructure repairs, clean-up operations, and essential service restoration.
Malta is the smallest recipient in the package. Portugal receives the largest share at €261.5 million following severe flooding, whilst Spain has been allocated €149.1 million and Italy €74.9 million, also in response to Storm Harry damage.
The package was passed with 651 votes in favour, 17 against, and three abstentions.
The approval from Parliament is a significant step, though the allocation still requires sign-off from the Council of the European Union before funds are fully mobilised. Since 2002, the EU Solidarity Fund has distributed more than €11 billion across 150 disaster events.
