Comino Hotel Developer Halts Works After Permit Suspension Order
HV Hospitality has said it will halt all works on the proposed Six Senses Comino project after the Environmental and Planning Review Tribunal suspended permits pending an appeal, a move the company said it did not object to.

The permit in question was approved by the Environment and Resources Authority on 7 August and covers the environmental programme for the project. This includes the removal and transplantation of trees and shrubs, as well as demolition and construction methods.
HV Hospitality noted that the only activity tied to a specific timeframe is the transplantation of trees and shrubs, which must be carried out during winter to maximise plant survival rates. The company expects the appeal to be concluded before that window opens, meaning no works are planned in the interim.
The developer maintains that the completed project will reduce the tourism footprint on Comino by 8,244 square metres compared to the existing hotel and bungalows it is set to replace. Whether that argument will hold weight with those appealing the decision remains to be seen.
