American Who Lived In Malta Jailed For Murdering Partner & Baby Daughter

An American man who lived in Malta under a false identity has been convicted by an Italian court of murdering his partner and their baby daughter, whose bodies were found in a Rome park last year.

The man, born Charles Francis Kaufmann, was found guilty of murdering Anastasia Trofimova, 28, and their 11-month-old daughter. Their bodies were discovered in Rome's Villa Pamphili park in June last year. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, with three years in solitary confinement.

Kaufmann had changed his name to Rexal Ford in 2019, and used the identity Daniel R. Foster while living in Malta in 2022. He held a British passport and Maltese residency papers, and reportedly travelled from Malta to Sicily using an Italian identity document under the name Matteo Capozzi.

While in Malta, he claimed to be producing a film titled Food Fight: The Great Culinary Battle of Malta, which was never released. He also applied for an Italian film grant for another project, naming Harrison Ford as its lead actor. Neither production appeared to be genuine.

Following Thursday's verdict, the prosecutor described Ford as "cold, calculating, manipulative, and a pathological narcissist".
