Yorgen Fenech is facing three separate charges in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Fenech will stand trial for the murder of Caruana Galizia, for criminal association, and for the purchase of illegal items.
Complicity in murder
Prosecutors filed a bill of indictment against Fenech on the 18th of August, wrapping up the lengthy compilation of evidence process that first kicked off in November 2019.
The Attorney General’s office is understood to be pushing for Fenech to be sentenced to life in prison for complicity in murder.
2. Criminal association
The Attorney General's Office is also pushing for Fenech to be given a 20 to 30-year sentence for the separate charge for criminal association.
This association comes in the form of his coordination of the Degiorgio Brothers, Vince Muscat, and Melvin Theuma, in the plot to murder Caruana Galizia
3. Purchase of Illegal Items
Fenech is set to be charged in court today over the purchase of two grenades, two Glock pistols, 20grams of cyanide poison, two Scorpion machine guns, pistols and around 800 bullets.
Fenech also allegedly purchased a number of spy cameras, a new iPhone and had contacted a hacker on the dark web in order to gain access to an unidentified individual’s phone.
He is expected to be formally charged and arraigned in court later today.
