SideStreet spoke to several Maltese personalities to find out where they stand on the 2024 U.S.
Presidential race. We asked them who they’d support Donald Trump or Kamala Harris and, more importantly, why.
Their responses ranged from strong support for one candidate to complete disengagement from politics. Here’s what they had to say.
1. Eve Borg Bonello - Kamala Harris
"While I definitely do not agree with many of her policies, I’d have to say Kamala Harris. I can’t possibly justify supporting criminals who attack a country’s institutions, much as I fundamentally oppose the same thing locally."
2. Arnold Cassola - Kamala Harris
"Definitely Kamala Harris. Not only because the values of the Democratic party in the USA are nearer to mine than the Republican ones but also because Trump has repeatedly proven himself to be an arrogant politician with an air of entitled superiority, sprinkled with high doses of sexism, racism and a disdain of democratic values."
3. Kyonne Gravina - Trump
"Not following that much though."
4. Peppi Azzopardi - Kamala Harris
"Although I am convinced that abortion is premeditated killing, if I were American, I would still vote for Kamala Harris, not because I agree with her, but to ensure that Donald Trump never spends another minute in the White House. Donald Trump is the worst president we’ve ever had in history.
He is a criminal, treats women as objects, was found guilty of sexual abuse, guilty of using millions corruptly, a racist person, and lives in hatred... Then, once Harris is in office and we are finally free from Trump, I would start campaigning against Harris and in favor of life."
5. Henry Galea - Kamala Harris
Henry Galea supports Kamala Harris, emphasising that she represents fairness, unity, and progress.
He highlights her commitment to equality, effective handling of the pandemic, protection of reproductive rights, upholding democratic values, fostering international relations, and championing economic justice. He contrasts these attributes with Trump's divisive and damaging impact on democracy and global relations.
6. Sean Gravina - Trump
"I like a person where you know where you stand with him. Yes, Trump isn’t perfect and eccentric; however, he is very business-minded and I believe he knows what he is doing… In his time, the world was in a much better place than it is now."
7. Keith Demicoli - Kamala Harris
"I support Kamala Harris. She has been an advocate for strong climate action and environmental protection. Malta and many other islands are particularly vulnerable. Her leadership could foster greater international cooperation on ocean conservation and climate resilience.
Her stance on social justice and human rights is truly admirable and her presidency might also signal a commitment to these values on a global scale."
8. Thomas Bajada Kamala Harris
She is the one that can mostly represent those that are under represented and she is forward-thinking, believes more in social justice and climate action.
9. James Ryder - No Opinion
I'm not touching this with a 10 foot pole. I'm done with politics.
Who would you support? 🇺🇸🤝
Kamala Harris
Donald Trump
