Police Will Prosecute Man Who Assaulted Somali Immigrant In Mġarr

Police are set to prosecute a man before the Gozitan courts after he allegedly beat a Somali man before throwing him into the sea in what is suspected to be a racially motivated attack.

A post which was widely shared on social media recounted the incident, where “a ‘hero’ decided to show what a KING he was in front of a crowd of 100 cheering people, moved a dust bin, moved a table and to the disgusting roar of the horde he punched the guy from Somalia and threw him in the sea.”

Though only one person is set to be arraigned, the post revealed that the Somali man was allegedly assaulted by 15 people in front of a cheering crowd in Mġarr, Gozo. The eyewitness who made the social media post said she was ready to testify against the aggressor in court and offered her full support.

Gozitan PN MP Kevin Cutajar proceeded to comment on the situation, causing controversy over his apparent defence of those who assaulted the Somali immigrant.
