Malta has allowed around 300 Ukrainians fleeing the ongoing conflict in their country temporary refuge on the island. Humanitarian NGOs predict the number could soon rise.
Ukrainian refugees heading to Malta will be eligible for government housing and healthcare, not to mention waves upon waves of privately funded support from the general public. The Maltese government will be allowing Ukrainians the opportunity to extend their period of stay here.
Over 3 quarters of those fleeing Ukraine for Malta are women and children. This is mostly due to the drafting of pretty much all Ukrainian men as a response to the overwhelming amount of Russian troops pouring into their country.
