Young Maltese adults prefer to save up and buy a house rather than rent property, a recent study by the University of Malta found.
According to Prof Angela Abela from the Department of Family Studies, this is very different to the trend observed abroad.
Prof Abela said that most Maltese don’t live on their own before the age of 30. Indeed, young Maltese people are among those in Europe who live with their parents the longest before leaving home.
In Sweden, Luxembourg and Denmark most leave the house at around 22.
