Eve Borg Bonello has been elected to parliament as the youngest ever MP in Malta’s history following a casual election which took place earlier this morning among Nationalist candidates.
In total, there were 48 candidates who threw their name in the hat and 7 vacant seats to be filled. Fresh face and young female Nationalist candidate Rebekah Cilia was also elected to the 7th district.
Borg Bonello failed to get elected during the casual election but will make it to parliament nonetheless through the gender corrective mechanism.
A total of 8 female deputies were elected to the Nationalist Party ranks in this casual election, after only one was elected in the first round of voting.
Those candidates are: Janice Chetcuti, Paula Mifsud Bonnici, Rebekah Cilia, Graziella Attard Previ, Julie Zahra, Bernice Bonello, Claudette Buttigieg and Eve Borg Bonello.
