Turning 18 and finally looking to get out of your parents' house and explore the world? Well don’t you worry because the EU’s DiscoverEU programme has got you sorted and we’re here to tell you all about it.
Turns out if you’re lucky enough to have been born between 1st July 2003 and 30th June 2004 you’re eligible to travel for free around the European continent…if you apply before Thursday.
However, the European Commission encourages sustainable travel via trains and is willing to help out youths located in isolated areas such as… you know …islands.
Now, I bet the rest of those turning 18 later in the year must be feeling pretty bummed out and about to enter their emo phase, but hold on; cos you’ve got a second opportunity to apply next October when the same offer will be valid. So there you go…
Also shoutout to all the Erasmus + students who will also be eligible to apply for this package thanks to funding from the European Year of Youth 2022.
Bottom line, this is an opportunity to discover new places and make life-lasting encounters and the EU is basically paying you to do it…if you get in on it in time.
Application is done through a 7-step procedure via an online application form on the European Youth Portal. It will not be possible to submit an application after Thursday.
The process will consist of a general knowledge test in relation to the European Union, as the scope of the project is about encouraging younger people to connect more with the mainland continent.
