Police officers from the corps’ forensics unit have been rushed to a scene in Qormi where the finding of a body was reported. The team was spotted by local journalists to be seen working around a Peugeot 407.
Reports that materialised later in the afternoon revealed that the car belongs to a man identified to be on Malta’s missing persons list as Mario Farrugia.
The remains were reportedly mutilated and placed in the boot of a Peugeot parked in the Hal-Qormi valley. The body was found with the face covered and in a semi-decomposed state. For that reason, the murder victim could not yet be identified.
Farrugia was a resident of Pembroke and was reported missing on April 2nd.
Police were allegedly called to the scene after passers-by began to notice the awful stench emanating from the boot of the vehicle. Farrugia’s family was reported to have arrived on the scene but not allowed to see his remains immediately.
