TLDR: Malta’s youngest MP Eve Borg Bonello and Cyrus Engerer; an MEP currently attached to Malta’s delegation to Brussels, have locked horns in a personal clash over their political credibility.
Borg Bonello is the youngest MP in Maltese history as well the youngest serving Parliamentary delegate in the world.
Borg Bonello had appeared on TVM for one of the usual yawn inspiring political segments to debate a rival MP elected on the gender quota. Now I think we’re all accustomed to how Labour and PN politicians usually engage in inconsequential banana measuring competitions (on their [personal] or party’s behalf) when asked to engage in a civilised debate.
But this time things got…spicier...
Borg Bonello on TVM's 'Xtra' show
As the two female MPs dug deeper and deeper into their respective arsenals of the opposing party’s failings; one of the subjects that arose was Labour and PN’s stakes at the European level. “PN Have An EP President, PL Have An MEP Guilty Of Sex Crimes” Borg Bonello said in reference to Cyrus Engerer, a Labour MEP convicted of revenge porn a few years back and now representing Malta in Brussels.
Engerer has been an MEP since November 2020, despite his past decisions to spread revenge pornography.
Engerer, upon seeing this, sprinted to his laptop to manufacture a facebook status to patronise the young Borg Bonello telling her ‘she had a lot to learn’. Now this is not to say that the young Borg Bonello (who admitted this) has no lessons to be learned in her political career but Engerer could also be taught a thing or two about constructive comebacks.
Borg Bonello 1 - Engerer nil.
